It's AGM Time - can you help our School?
The purpose of any P&C Association is to:
promote the interests of the school by bringing parents, citizens, pupils and teaching staff into close co-operation;
assist in providing equipment required by the school;
report to the Minister the material requirements of the school;
assist the teaching staff in establishment of school policy and management in all facets of school activity.
At Beechwood P&C our activities and purpose encompasses all these things, but goes a little more like this:
For us, the P&C is all about our children - we want the best for them in an inclusive, supportive, community-minded school environment.
We work closely together with the School to ensure that the children of Beechwood have the best possible opportunities and outcomes.
We collaborate with the School on events and activities.
We support the children and the School by fundraising.
We apply for grants that can be used to provide more and better infrastructure.
Our Canteen operates with the support of the School, for the good of our families.
BOOSH operates on school grounds thanks to the support of the School, and this helps make things easier for our local families.
Beechwood P&C is made up of passionate parents, caregivers, teachers, staff, and community members who have come together to support and maximise the educational experience of our students. We believe that a strong school community can make all the difference.
The Beechwood P&C is the focal point for parent involvement at the school and provides a place for parents to discuss and debate matters of interest relating to the school and community.
All parents or guardians, and community members, are invited to become members of the P&C. Membership costs $1 per year and can be paid at anytime.
The P&C Executive oversees the P&C’s operation while committees look after each of the services which the P&C provides.
All P&C members are invited to nominate for Executive positions. However new members are not expected to take on additional roles in their first year – not unless they want to, of course!
Our AGM is held in mid February each year. This is where we elect our Executive committee who will lead the P&C for the next 12 months. There are many roles that can be taken on at the AGM. We have 5 Office Bearers (President, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President (Communications) and Vice President (Fundraising).
There are also specific roles related to our business activities including our BOOSH Liaison and our Canteen Convenor. There are also general committee roles who assist with organising other activities and support the other members of the Executive team. All of these roles are voted in at the AGM.
Our normal meetings are held on the 2nd Tuesday of each month during School terms. You can find out our next meeting dates on the calendar on our Events page.
At these meetings, each of the key roles within our committee provide reports on their activities. The Principal also provides a report of happenings within the school and of matters which relate to parents.
We discuss future activities and fundraising opportunities, and make plans for our regular events. Some of these regular events include: Welcome BBQ, Easter Raffle, Mother's Day Breakfast and Stall, Father's Day Breakfast and Stall, and Christmas Event.
Our P&C in 2023 is nearly 30 members strong, which for a school the size of ours is something pretty wonderful. Below are some images and roles of people you may have seen or heard about in relation to our P&C. All these people (and everyone else who is a member) play a vital role in keeping our P&C running, particularly with the two businesses we operate (BOOSH and Canteen).
